Broward Meals on Wheels receives donation from Publix and Food For All
Through their support of the Broward Meals on Wheels and the community, Publix embraces the Food For All campaign. The funds raised are used to support programs designed to fight hunger on a local, regional, national and international level. Funds raised stay in the communities in which they were raised.

Throughout Publix's campaign, customers can contribute to the fund by purchasing contribution cards in varying amounts.
On April 7, 2009, Publix customers and associates donated $15,000.00 to the Broward Meals on Wheels.

More than a Meal Service Award

The More than a Meal Service Award is presented annually in memory of Nathan A. Goren to a Broward Meals on Wheels volunteer who is exemplary in their commitment to the mission and clients at Broward Meals on Wheels.  The recipient’s dedication and service are recognized as a role model for others in bringing the vision of “more than just a meal” to the 10,000 seniors supported annually in Broward County.

Mr. Goren gave a significant amount of time, energy, resources, contacts, and compassion to the Broward County community during his time here. He passed away in August of 2008 and with him went a mentor, volunteer, board member, father, husband, grandfather, and friend who taught those who would listen to network and get the job done.  He was a member of the Broward Meals on Wheels Board of Directors as well as a past Chair of the Board.  He was inducted into the Senior Hall of Fame by the Aging and Disability Resource center.

This award recognizes a Broward Meals on Wheels volunteer who demonstrates this commitment to community shared by Nathan Goren.  The purpose of the award is to acknowledge those who give so much back to the community and who do so with quiet determination and commitment.

Our 2009 Winner is Renee Horwitz.

Thank you, Renee, for all of your dedication and hard work.  You help make Broward Meals on Wheels the supportive part of the community we all live in, and our community is stronger as a result of your contribution.
